|Harlem Avenue Sewing Center Announces Liquidation Sale
Harlem Avenue Sewing Center (HASC), a family-owned and
operated independent retailer of sewing machines, has been
servicing customers for over 35 years in the Chicagoland area.
The business specializes in new and refurbished sewing machines,
accessories, service, and training. Owner, John Scarsella, founded
the business in 1979, two blocks north of its current location, after
working for Singer Sewing Company a few years prior in the
Woodfield Mall. He and his partner obtained the distributorship
along with running four other retail outlets and two factory-
authorized service centers.
In the early years, the store carried a variety of sewing and
household items such as vacuum cleaners, iron and accessories
under the Singer brand. Over the years, the store expanded its
selection and moved to its current location to better serve its
growing customer base.
HASC has won numerous awards and recognition over its 35 years
in business. Singer Sewing Company awarded them the “Dealer of
the Year” in 1992 as well as the “Outstanding Sales Achievement”
award for 14 years. The Brother International Company named
them “Royal Performance Member” 15 times for outstanding sales
and service. HASC also attained the BBB Complaint Free Award
status from 2012-2014. In January 2012, HASC was awarded
“provider status” by the Illinois State Board of Education to assist
Illinois and City of Chicago teachers with their completion of
Continuing Professional Development Units (CPDU), a requirement
to actively maintain their teaching certificate. In more recent years,
they were featured on NBC’s weekend web technology segment
and grew its Facebook community to 1500 followers.
John reflects, "Harlem Avenue Sewing Center has enabled me to
make lifelong friendships, travel all over the world, and service the
community. Thank you to all my loyal customers, family, and friends
for all the support throughout the years”.
HASC will start liquidating their inventory immediately and plan to
close the store later in the year.
Harlem Avenue Sewing Center is located at 3906 N Harlem Ave,
